Audition Process

Auditions are a tool that help to determine a student's ability to learn and grow musically.  No prior musical experience is required, although musicality is assessed in order to help place students into the most appropriate level.  Auditions typically take about 20 minutes.  Students hear rhythmic and melodic patterns and are asked to repeat them.  Vocal range is determined with a variety of warm-up exercises.  Students are asked to come prepared with a memorized piece.  This can be something as simple as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or something more challenging that interests the students.  If piano accompaniment is desired, students may bring a copy of the sheet music to the audition.  Depending on the age of the student, s/he may be asked to sight read an easy song in order to determine note reading skills.  After the audition, students are informed of acceptance and advised of the level in which they should start.  All students ages 5-18 with a love of singing are encouraged to audition.
